Saturday, May 6
10a-2p Pleasant Hill Dam Guided Tours – Explore the inside of the dam structure with the US Army Corps of Engineers staff. Learn about construction and operations. Must be able to navigate and walk up and down stairs. Meet at Spillway/ Dam gatehouse parking lot.
10a-2p Gold Rush Panning – In 1853 Gold was discovered in Bellville along the Clear Fork River. Try your luck at panning for gold with the Buckeye Chapter of the GPAA volunteers. Meet at the Welcome Center.
10a-2p Hidden History Kayak (self-guided tour) – Explore the hidden history near and under the waters of the lake. What happened to Hell Town to Newville that caused their disappearances? Pick up a map and then take your own boat or rent one from the marina at a discount (limited number, first-come first serve). Meet at Pleasant Hill Marina.
10a-2p Appleseed Historical Byway Tour (self-guided tour) – Pick up your byway brochure/map at the Welcome Center and take a self-guided auto tour of the byway approximately 16 miles on State Routes 39 and 603.
11-2p Archaeological Society of Ohio, Johnny Appleseed Chapter- Members of the society will have several historical displays and Indian artifacts set up for viewing and to ask questions. In the welcome center.
12n-3p Local History of Bigfoot – Discover local sightings from 1899 to the present. Staff will answer your questions and share our Bigfoot Basecamp opportunity in October. Meet at the Welcome Center.
1p Osprey Wagon Tours – Enjoy a FREE Naturalist-led wagon tour to visit our nesting Osprey nests here at the park. Learn about the history of these unique birds of prey. Limited seating. Sign up to reserve your free spot at the Welcome Center.

10a Hike BACK into History Cemetery Folklore – Explore the history of St. John’s Cemetery. One man’s superstitions are another man’s beliefs, although some of these beliefs have been dismissed as superstition, others may still be followed. Meet at Welcome Center.

The Legend of Johnny Appleseed: Planting a Seed of Kindness and Adventure. Johnny Appleseed Chapman was an American folk hero who is best known for his contribution to the propagation of apple trees in the United States. He was born John Chapman in 1774 and traveled extensively throughout the Midwest, planting apple trees wherever he went. He was a pioneer of sustainable agriculture and is remembered fondly as a symbol of self-sufficiency and resourcefulness. His legacy lives on today through the many apple orchards that still bear his name.
Johnny Appleseed Chapman, born John Chapman in 1774, was an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced apple trees to large parts of Pennsylvania, Ontario, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. He became an American folk hero while still alive due to his kind and generous nature and his love of nature. He was a missionary for The New Church (Swedenborgianism) and traveled extensively on foot planting apple trees wherever he went. His legacy lives on today as the namesake of numerous towns, parks, and schools throughout the United States.
