TRY IT THURSDAYS at Pleasant Hill Lake Park

Thursdays have been set aside as “Try It Thursdays “, where we provide you with a new experience to “try” or enjoy an old favorite. All programs are free* and activities rotate throughout the summer. We provide everything you will need or you can bring your own equipment if you like. Our staff will be available to provide basic instruction, safety, and skills needed for each activity. We will have limited equipment and will be on a first come, first serve basis and open to all ages. All participates under 18 years of age must have parent/guardian sign waiver. * gate entry fee may apply. Little Buckeye Children's Museum Members get free entry on Wednesdays and Thursdays must show membership card at gate.

Activity Descriptions:

BB Gun: First time or experienced rifle shooters try and improve your rifle shooting & safety skills. Our Naturalist Staff Instructors will be conducting this hands-on program. At the Shelter house #2. Will be using single shot youth BB gun rifle, paper, and 3-D targets.


Fishing: Basic use of casting rod and reel. Instructions and skills needed for lake fishing. Poles, reels, and bait will be provided. Will be fishing at the floating fishing dock by the beach parking lot.

Archery: First time or experienced bow shooters try and improve your Archery shooting & safety skills. Our Naturalist Staff Instructors will be conducting this hands-on program. At the Shelter house #2. Will be using recurve bows, field targets, and foam 3D animal targets


Survival Skills-Fire Starting: Learn to build and light a fire without using matches. After we start the fire using flint & steel and other survival skills, we will roast marshmallows and make smores to eat. Basic campfire building skills, survival, safety, and cooking. At Welcome center area.


Kayaking: Beginner kayaking program, learn basic kayaking skills and water safety. We provide the kayak, paddles, lifejacket and basic instruction. You will be kayaking in the kayak launch area at the cove by the beach swim area parking lot. Under 18 must have parent/guardian sign waiver.
